Curious about the basics of seed saving? Join the garden team to learn how to recognise when seed heads are ready for harvesting as well as the best ways to collect, clean and store seeds for future growing. You’ll see how we save seed from a range of plants, including the heritage Gortahork cabbage, which has been grown in the gardens for many years.

An Binse Cliste is a collaborative project between Donegal County Council, the National Parks and Wildlife Services, Data2Sustain, the ATU Design School and ATU WiSAR Lab. Patrick is an Irish wood turner and carver who gives trees a second lease of life by creating art forms from locally sourced fallen trees. Patrick works with various species of native Irish trees exposing the unique grain patterns and textures formed by nature during their first life.

Join 4th generation spinning wheel maker Johnny Shiels for this interactive demonstration showcasing the traditional craft of spinning and weaving. Learn how the unique Donegal spinning wheel is made and the wood that is used. There may even be an opportunity to have a go!

Led by one of Glenveagh’s expert Nature Guides, this gentle stroll around the Derrylahan Nature trail will be all about discovering what wildflowers bloom in late summer. We’ll also see some exciting progress with our woodland conservation work as we journey round the trail too. Feel free to bring a picnic to enjoy along the way.
