Please note that a large forest fire that started last night is burning its way through the Nephin Forest at Letterkeen on the east side of the national park. Following damage sustained during storm Èowyn, the following sites will remain closed to the public: Ballycroy Visitor Centre and Education Centre, Bangor Trail, Western Way (Shramore to Altnabrooky Section), Letterkeen Loop Trails, Srahrevagh Loop Trails, and all bothies and camping areas. These sites will reopen at 11:00 am on Monday, 27/01/2025, after full safety checks
Due to the current Red Weather Warning in place for Co. Mayo, valid from 04:00 Friday 24/01/2025 to 12:00 24/01/2025, the following sites will be closed to the public: Ballycroy Visitor Centre and Education Centre, Bangor Trail, Western Way (Shramore to Altnabrooky Section), Letterkeen Loop Trails, Srahrevagh Loop Trails, and all bothies and camping areas.
Please be aware that conditions at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre and the Claggan Coastal Trail are very slippery and should be avoided during this time. The Shramore and Kennagh roads to Letterkeen on the remote East Side of the National Park are very dangerous and should also be avoided. We appeal to everyone to stay
Tenders are invited for the operation of the tearoom concession at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre at Wild Nephin National Park, Ballycroy, Westport, Co. Mayo. The concession will be for a term of two seasons, with an option of two additional seasons subject to agreement. The concession will operate for the period from the 15th March
