Investigation underway following the outbreak of a significant fire at Wild Nephin National Park

This weekend saw several NPWS managed sites around Wild Nephin National Park affected by major fire incidents. A fire has completely destroyed the Claggan Boardwalk, and a separate fire is ongoing at the forest at Letterkeen.  The causes of these wildfires are still under investigation, with both apparently starting during the night. Wildfire Alert

Please note that a large forest fire that started last night is burning its way through the Nephin Forest at Letterkeen on the east side of the national park. Following damage sustained during storm Èowyn, the following sites will remain closed to the public: Ballycroy Visitor Centre and Education Centre, Bangor Trail, Western Way (Shramore to Altnabrooky Section), Letterkeen Loop Trails, Srahrevagh Loop Trails, and all bothies and camping areas.
